Responsibilities:
Exercises professional and administrative responsibility for providing pharmaceutical services to the beneficiaries of the Meskwaki Tribal Health Center and employees of the Tribe and Casino and their dependents.
These services are to assure good patient outcomes involving the use of pharmaceutical which include decreases in:
(1) the number of drugs prescribed; (2) inappropriately prescribed medications; (3) treatment failure; and (4) frequency and severity of adverse reactions to prescribed medications.
Serves as authority on drug use for the Meskwaki Tribal Health Facility, which involves consultative and advisory tasks to committees and the medical staff, and the coordination of services and efforts with other departments and professionals that are involved in direct patient care or support of those activities.
Maintains stock control records, narcotic records, and inventories as necessary to meet all inspection and other requirements of Tribal and Federal Laws, rules, and regulations governing the practice of pharmacy.
Assures rational drug therapy by providing drug information, educating health professionals, maintaining an appropriate drug formulary, as well as Pharmacy and Therapeutics functions.
Reviews all drug orders to assure the appropriateness of prescribed drug therapy, resolving any discrepancies with the prescriber prior to dispensing.
This review will include:
verification of the prescription as a complete, valid legal order; checking for appropriateness of drug prescribed versus the diagnosis, dose and dosage form, and quantity of medication; drug sensitivities; drug interactions; pathological concerns what would necessitate an alteration of dosage or choice of agent; and assess whether current problem/diagnosis is not potentially drug induced or drug related.
In addition to concurrent screening of outpatient orders, conducts a similar but prospective review of prescribed therapy given to beneficiaries when cared for under Purchased and Referral Care Services.
Using established standards of care provides pharmaceutical counseling to patients with stable chronic conditions who require medication refills and to patients with acute self-limiting illnesses as determined by the Meskwaki Tribal Health Clinic policy and needs.
Uses the pharmacy software package to report workload data and monitor all pharmacy functions.
Adheres to all Pharmacy and applicable Clinic policies and procedures.
Performs other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor degree in Pharmacy required; an advanced degree Pharm D.
or M.
S.
preferred.
Four or more years of experience in clinical, hospital, and/or retail setting required.
Iowa State Board of Pharmacy licensure to practice pharmacy and to dispense controlled substance.
Must meet eligibility requirement for a personal service contract with Indian Health Services if not Iowa SUPERVISION:
Supervised by the Director of Pharmacy.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
